Bambisanani: Teacher Training Programme

Bambisanani is a Community Learning Programme which has been launched by Grantleigh and RBM.  It is an expansion on an existing programme which has been running for years whereby pupils from previously disadvantages backgrounds are brought to our school on the Grantleigh buses on a Friday afternoon to be tutored in Maths, English, Science and Life Orientation.

Bambisanani (which means “Let’s pull together”) has been expanded to incorporate the tutoring of teachers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds.  The first of these sessions took place on Saturday with 16 teachers being bused to Grantleigh to be mentored and trained by our Maths and Science teachers, Mrs Kruger and Mrs van der Walt.

It was a hugely successful morning with the teachers eager to improve their knowledge and skills.  They sought advice on how to teach certain aspects of the syllabus and group discussions came up with some interesting and creative solutions to problems.  It was very evident to our teachers that there is a big need for this type of "intervention" and they found the morning hugely rewarding because they felt that they were instrumental in making a difference, not only in the lives of the teachers they were working with but also, ultimately, in the lives of children that these teachers will teach.

Mrs Kruger had this to say:  "It was wonderful to be able to share our experience with each and I feel privileged to be a part of this programme.  This experience has, once again, made me realise that we are blessed to be working at a school such as ours."
